Just discovered this comic. Absolutely beautiful and I already care about the characters. Well done!

  2. Nestor says:

Whoops, yeah if you update several pages at a time then linking to the cat won’t work. Didn’t realize you were doing that.

  3. Ramón says:

    thanks all!

regarding the ‘newest page’ link, it goes -as lee mentioned- to the first of my two page updates.

regarding merch, i’m trying to figure that one out :) i do have some girly tee’s that some ladies picked up at conventions earlier this summer, but that aside i got nothing. yet. i’d love to see vynil figures… who do i gotta talk to about this!?

and as for wallpapers and such – i’ll try for the new year. but i’m pretty busy so it may be awhile. the same goes for a characters page. i kinda didn’t realize how many characters there were… will have to get on this…

    thanks again everyone!

  4. ieatbabysheep says:

Get makin with the updates! ;p

  5. katiebird says:

it’d help to have a character list somewhere.

  6. DCorsetto says:

There hasn’t been a single page that’s taken me out of this comic yet. I just keep wanting to come back, and every time I do I feel like I’m still “in it.”

Nice work on those softened sound effects, Ramón! I loved that!

  7. Nestor says:

Quick comicpress tip, instead of manually changing the link to latest comic every time you update, just use the link to the category, i.e. and it will automatically send people to the latest comic

  8. Odo says:

Right… and the “iguana” is a chameleon. *sigh*

  9. Niteowl says:

    Gorgeous, stunning, breathtaking.

  10. Lee Cherolis says:

    Spiffy –
The newest pages are delivered in groups of two. So the “newest page” button links to the first of the two new pages. Then you just click forward to read the second page of the current update.

  11. spiffy says:

Has anyone else noticed that the front page links to the last page, not the current one? Keeps catching me out.

  12. Odo says:

My bad. Mr B is the iguana. The purple tetropus is named “Rendo”. That’s the problem with seeing this over such a long period of time, and being too lazy to go back to the beginning.

Which is what I just did.

On the other hand, going back to the beginning and re-reading the whole thing has given me fresh appreciation of the story. It is a rare comic that engages me more than once — and this one is rare in the extreme.

  13. Me! says:

    I love this comic!

I thought Mr. B was just looking up at the impending doom that is the missiles.

  14. Odo says:

Yes! Battlewhale has to have a gunner! Flip to port, and you set up a broadside to the incoming missiles. No “plane of battle” here, we got 3D!

    Go, whale, go!

Love it how Bojangles, even though he generally levitates, and therefore ought (in one sense) to be independent of the motions of the battlewhale, still partakes of the upset and confusion of a sudden flip to port. It clearly illustrates the fact that where they are is an “intentional” universe, where what happens is more dependent on intent than on physics.

This comic had engaged me thoroughly.

  15. Velocitor says:

I have to agree, wallpaper and merch would make this comic more awesome than it already is.

  16. Vitaemachina says:

I fell in love with this comic from panel one, and it’s grown to be my favorite online so far.

I can’t wait until you get some merch or a wallpaper online.

  17. Kelly says:

I love the feeling of motion in this strip…and the spider. That spider is rockin with it’s confused-ish ! going on.

ps – the newest page link doesn’t always take you to the newest page. :*( just fyi.

  18. Vlan2k says:

Grow up? Why on EARTH would you want to do such a terrible thing?!?!?

  19. Jane says:

That spider is badass. I wanna be a spider when I grow up…

  20. Christie "The Yellow Dart" St. Martin says:

    poor, poor sweet battlewhale…

  21. Matt says:

Yes Phil, but Mr. Skellington’s first shot (which was a miss) was also red – so hopefully the spider can intercept the torpedos! (Am betting the spheres envelope the torpedos so when they explode they dont wake the giants)

  22. imojen says:

i get so emotionally involved with this strip, it makes me feel dumb.
i was yelling, “NO! GO, WHALE GO!” and my roommate came in to make sure i was ok.

hoo-ray for kukuburi, which is as beautiful as always.

  23. Sam says:

When facing the bow of a ship (the pointy end / Front) Port = Left and Starboard = Right. 20 years in the Navy and I still remember that crap.

  24. alan says:

never mind the whales save the blonde bimbos!!!!!!!!

  25. Fran says:

You must have the freakiest dreams.

  26. Vlan2k says:

Guess that answers the question about the “spider thingy”!! Amazing work…. as always!

  27. Phil Nolan says:

But … but in Battleship, red means a hit. (sniff) Oh noes.

  28. Lee Cherolis says:

Ah ha! The spidery-lookin’ thing was a spider.

That last panel is pretty cool. the blurred sound effects are a nice effect. It’s like that split second right before the explosion where everything just goes silent and freezes.

  29. jarvis says:

Oooooh the effect in the last frame is amazing – great effect with the far-distance blurred and the rockets (retro red, too! I love it) in sharp focus.

Great work – can’t wait to see the next ;)

  30. Senksis says:

    I didn’t know that there was a direction “starboard” in sailing… ;o)
Quite athletic, this whale. I really like the whole giant sequence!

  31. Kris says:

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah! Save the whales! Save the whales! They’re a bloody protected species, y’know! Save the whales!

  32. Bill says:

oh wow, I didn’t even notice that

  33. Kristina says:

I was just about to say “Hey where’s the spider’s hat” but I took a closer look and saw that he’s wearing a beret.
