UPDATE | august 22 2011:
as the summer comes to a close my days are literally blurring by. i am drowning in TALE OF SAND. as i often state these days “it’s eating my life” – lovingly so – but it is.
as the relaunch date for kukuburi draws near i know i’m not going to make it. i’ll be wrapping TALE OF SAND at the end of this month come early september. after working 16hr days everyday for the past 60 days i’m going to need (want!) a break before launching back into into kukuburi – for my own sake and the sake of kukuburi i want to be freshly rested and recharged.
so i apologise now cause i know the day is fast approaching and i’m going to have to bump it – i think i month will suffice to get my house and health back in order. plus i figure one more month tacked onto what… a year… isn’t really going to make much difference in the grand scheme of things; OCTOBER 31 2011 with daily weekly updates for the first two weeks!
WHAT WAS SAID BEFORE | april 12 2011:
i’d like to share a few things…
so clearly the promised updates that were to happen, did not. the reasons are two fold, the first is that post C2E2 i was slammed with the flu, along with most of the folks in my studio. it wasn’t pretty. this sent my schedule into chaos as i was bed ridden for a few days… so once relative health returned i had to jump into client work which i had fallen behind on.
during C2E2 Archaia officially announced my involvement in their project Tale of Sand. the graphic novel to be released later this year is an adaptation, by me, of an unfilmed jim henson and jerry juhl screenplay from 1974. according to the archives, this is the only full length henson script never to see the light of day. it’s been sitting in a box on a dusty shelf for almost 40 years! it is my honour, with archaia and in conjunction with the henson company, to directly adapt this story into a graphic novel. the story is a dark existential one of a man’s journey through… well that would be giving too much away. for a bit more insight into Tale Of Sand, here is an interview i did with TGTwebcomics regarding the project, as well as archaia’s stephen christy talks with fox chicago. the book is set for a 2011 fall release.
this would be the said client work i had to jump in on – as well, my deadline on Tale Of Sand is a lot tighter than originally anticipated. which means it will be monopolizing my time.
it’s amazing how things can change in a weekend.
kukuburi, which i hold near and dear and wish i could be working on every day, is a labour of love – and WILL be completed. but i do it in my free time and for no pay and i really don’t think people realize just how much time goes into each page, it’s not like i knock out each page in an afternoon. it takes time, sometimes up to 2 full days a page, which is time i unfortunately don not have at the moment. i had hope to be updating again by now, points in fact; the story is written, the pages roughed out, hell there are 20 pages sitting here drawn in need of inks and colour. but with the tight deadline and amount of work required to complete Tale Of Sand my immediate dream of returning to the book has been shelved.
at C2E2 i asked fans if they would rather see me update one or two pages a month (if that!) or wait till i have time to return to do things proper. they all said the latter.
despite monopolizing my time right now, Tale Of Sand will allow me, once completed, to take a few months off and focus on kukuburi. i know many of you have been waiting almost a year for more story… of which i am gracious, i just ask you for a few more months.
that said, another discussion that took place at C2E2, with a prominent publisher, was in regards to the collected edition of kukuburi….
more on that as things develop.
