as promised page 102!

i had hoped to have a third page done for this weeks update, but other work had to be done. though i will try and have said page which is half inked up over the weekend, or maybe tomorrow night. we’ll see…

a few points of note:

new artwork in the FAN ART GALLERY! two pieces to be specific. a spore reinterpretation of the ghrung by brianna nontell and a collaborative rendition of nadia by jessa and arianna titled ’spread the love.’ 

i want to thank these girls, and everyone who has contributed to the kukuburi fan art gallery, it really makes my day when i receive great artwork such as this in my mailbox.

(and the grinches heart grew three sizes that day…)

regarding wallpapers, i’ll do what i can when i have a spare moment or two. either whipping up something new or reformatting an existing page or two into one.

i briefly mentioned this in a news post whilst on hiatus. not sure if everyone spotted it so i’ll reiterate. time permitting, i’m going to slowly begin designing t-shirts and perhaps prints/posters. i have a few ideas in mind but i’d like to hear what folks might be interested in seeing. character shirts? a brigade du chapeau shirt? something a bit more abstract? let me know…

finally a few have as regarding my tenancy court case. the hearing i was at this past wednesday was in superior court and it was adjourned. which is good. the case in superior court was put forth by the opposition in an attempt to have the case which i put forth in landlord and tenants court superseded. which would be bad and cost me oodles of money, money i don’t have. so in turn because they are a corporation with captial at their disposal they would have the upper hand.

luckily the case was adjourned because the judge in the landlord and tenants court took jurisdiction over my case and combined it with two other tenants cases. this ubercase will now be heard next friday.

and that’s when the fit will be hitting the shan…

well the past couple days have been late nights and early mornings due to work and legal meetings. i working on kuku, but i’m tired, so i’m going to wrap it for the night, plus i have an court hearing tomorrow so i feel i should be well rested. i will continue work on kuku tomorrow after the hearing and have three pages of story for all you fine folks for thursday.

hrm, it’s kinda like kuku and the squash switched places this week…

still reeling from that domino effect from last week. but there will be new kuku up tomorrow!

just wanted to let you good folks know…

life seems to be going according to plan. a pleasant change that i’m going to run with.

the tenancy hearings are in a holding pattern, if you’re interested in knowing more the local weekly alt/indy paper NOW wrote a few words about the situation.

for those of you who are in or near the montréal area i will be appearing at the montréal comicon this weekend. i’ll only have original art on hand (from my dc comics work) but i will also be doing sketch requests. please swing on by and say hello!

beyond that, my little brain has been percolating with ideas for kukuburi swag. i have some t-shirt designs in the works as well as limited edition prints and possibly stickers. i’ll post ideas up for input but till then let me know what you’d like to see!

i have also been doing a little research into self publishing and starting my own imprint to bring kukuburi, amongst other things, into the printed medium and into your hands. but this is a long term goal - though i am aiming towards spring/summer of 2009!

after some great reviews on COMICFENCING.COM (thank you kindly gentlemen, and i do promise to clean up my grammar in the cast section!), a little pimping from GIRLS WITH SLINGSHOTS and a mention in PC MAG’s 10 Best Unsung  Webcomics you’d think the last thing i would do would be to go on hiatus. not to mention the prodding and ridicule i will receive from my studio mates and fellow TRANSMISSION Xers!

it seems the past couple months since my tenancy shenanigans began i’ve been throwing out excuses. something i hate doing, no matter how valid. i figure it can always get done. but i’m drowning. 

i love working on kukuburi, along with butternut, it’s the very highlight of my week. but right now life is not too condusive in allowing me the time i wish to devote to creating kukuburi. i will not throw something up just for the sake of having something new every week, or as i have tried, every other week. with my current workload and my upcoming court hearings regarding my tenancy my brain is feeling a little lost and disjointed and because of this i’ve become a little disconnected with kukuburi.

so for the sake of the story and the enjoyment of it by you the readers i want to step away and clear up my workload to a manageable size as well as deal with the court proceedings, which a ramping up (i go to court tomorrow) so tonnes of meetings are being held with my lawyers and to make things even more interesting the opposition is playing some dirty pool so things are getting a bit chaotic.

i feel like the sword of damocles is hanging over my head.

i’ve set the date of september 9th for kuku’s return. it’s only a month away so i hope i don’t lose you all to the ebb and flow of the internet. by that time i know my workload will be of a more manageable size, ads for the court proceedings i really don’t know where things are headed there. things could be golden and i could be sitting pretty or things could go the way of evil and the corporation will crush me, drain me for every penny i don’t have and i’ll be looking for a new home.

you never know. so with that on the horizon i ask for a short reprieve.

i will be attending the upcoming local FAN EXPO later this month from august 22nd to the 24th. please swing by if you can, whether it be but for a little witty banter, a doodle or to buy some swag.

looks like my tenancy case hearing is being held in early august. so this buys little old me some time.

however, it’s time to apply some elbow grease (is that the saying? or nose to the grindstone?) and get some work done - which is going to eat up a lot of my time in the coming month and a bit. i’ve landed a really nice gig working on the star wars: clone wars comic spin-off to the new movie coming out later this year. the book is being produced by star wars licensor dark horse comics. the script is fun but the work is daunting with all the referencing necessary. becuase of this i’m going to be taking kukuburi and butternutsquash to bi-weekly schedules. they will be posted on opposite weeks, this week being butternut’s trun and kukuburi’s next week. though i will try and put up something fun on the kukuburi off week, such as a wallpaper or cast page. my cohort in crime on bns, monsieur rob coughler, will take care of the opposing week on the squash.

as soon as i can i will try and bring both comics back onto their regular weekly schedules. hopefully if things go well, this’ll happen within a month or so.

if you’re curious about the star wars work, i’ll post what i can on my art blog, cranial percolations, when i can. right now i’m working on the cover to issue 2 which i’ll hopefully be able to share soon.

beyond that, the other fun twist of life that happened this week is that i will be teaching an inking class as part of the comic illustration course at toronto’s max the mutt animation school.

interesting indeed. who’da thought i’d be educating the masses?
