wow she has a bit of a twisted imagination! Those things are huge! nice lighting effects. I’m glad Kukuburi is back
September 25th, 2008 at 1:53 am
First thing I that popped into my head when I saw this was the Walkers from The Empire Strikes Back. Man, I’m a nerd.
September 25th, 2008 at 2:09 am
Woah, I did not see that coming. I just thought they were some kind of fire-filled rocks. I had to go back to look at the notebook in the grandmother flashback. Is Zulu still clinging to one of them?
Love the story and the art! I just gotta pay more attention to all the great detail and hints.
Don’t worry about the comic schedule, do what you have to do, just don’t quit please. It is worth the wait.
September 25th, 2008 at 4:37 am
They just get up and walk off??? Well …
September 25th, 2008 at 5:25 am
I doubt they “just walk off” … if I understand the world right, they may become new “soldiers” for the nemesis character, they may wreak uncontrolled havoc in their world or in ours, but there’s probably just not enough to interest them, where they originated. cool as they are though, I’m waiting on the hat! ^_^ looking forward to a bit more story exposition!

Whoo Whooooooooooooooo
September 25th, 2008 at 8:07 am
You are absolutely incredible. I just stumbled across your site last night and now me and all my housemates are hooked on it.
The earth creatures look Dali-esque to me, but I definitely thought of the Walkers too.
Can’t wait to see what happens next!

Hey dude, great page as always and thanks a ton for the plug! See you Saturday bro:)

Cool…the tall guys totally remind me of the War of the Worlds for some reason. Those are some heavy dudes.
September 25th, 2008 at 9:44 am
BAD FREAKIN ASS!!!
These guys wail. I wonder where they are headed…
September 25th, 2008 at 11:01 am
Ramon — is this a bit of a tribute to Little Nemo? The way they move, the shape of their feet… Love it!
September 25th, 2008 at 11:51 am
Well I am glad they didn’t notice our Nadia! Those guys look freakin mean!
September 25th, 2008 at 12:52 pm
Whoa.
Those creatures are bad-ass.
September 25th, 2008 at 1:02 pm
I thought of the striders in HL2. Am I nerdier?
September 25th, 2008 at 1:30 pm
Wow, another stunning visual!
September 25th, 2008 at 6:31 pm
As one who is afraid of heights, just looking at these creatures is totally uncomfortable. But in a good way.
September 25th, 2008 at 7:57 pm
we need that lovely giraffe from the beginning to go head to head w/ these guys- were any of these spindly-legged creatures inspired at all by Dali?
mindblowing.
September 26th, 2008 at 9:50 am
::head desk:: i’ve been missing updates all this time cause I was stuck on the news thread.
September 26th, 2008 at 1:56 pm
HL2 and Empire are good referencs, but when I saw these the first thing that crossed my mind was Tripods (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0086818/).
Now THAT is an obscure reference!

Ah, Ektdehaba — the tripods! Wow, that’s wonderfully obscure. Reminds me of a comic (maybe it was in the monthly Boy Scout magazine..?) about how America was taken over by space aliens which had been posing as rural water towers. It was kind of apocalyptic and survivalist, corn-fed Iowa boyscouts fighting against tripod-like water towers. Am I imagining this, or does anyone else remember this from the mid 80’s?
Anyway, here’s a link to the Little Nemo comic from about 1905 that these wonderful rock walkers reminded me of… wondering if Nemo’s “Slumberland” lives somewhere inside of Nadia’s Inbetween…

very nice twist
September 28th, 2008 at 11:05 am
Nice perspective, as always.
I remember Tripods! But then, I’m a War of the Worlds fan. I also have the novelization of the complete tv series of Tripod.
Yah, another nerd, but is that really a surprise? 8p

I had a dream about Kukuburi last night. I dreamed that this panel was a flash animation and the camera flew along over the ground, in amongst the legs of these giant creatures as they walked away from Nadia on their way to…? I felt excited because I was finding out what happened next.
I love the art in Kuku. My kids love it. But, man, it’s hard to wait for the plot to reveal itself. I’d almost rather put Kuku on the tail end of my RSS feed and wait for a year before I come back. That way I’ll be able to read a much larger part of the story.
Still, Ramon, I don’t want you to worry about your pacing, or my impatience. Just do your things and I’ll wait for the story.

[...] I was recently plugged on Kukuburi, an online comic from my friend Ramon Perez, and got quite a few comments regarding my latest post [...]

Ahhh! I posted twice somehow. Srry
September 29th, 2008 at 2:22 pm
Tripods was a series of books first. Then the other media followed.
Also, I assume “tomorrow” meant “next week” because a single week is as a day to Ramon?
September 29th, 2008 at 4:13 pm
I was going to say the same. Where’s my 100th page? This is no way to treat a kuku addict.
September 29th, 2008 at 8:47 pm
Hey, take it easy you guys. I doubt anyone could just whip up one of these in a few minutes. Haven’t heard any updates recently but I’d say Ramon’s got a battle going on outside of his comic life.
I reckon these are worth the wait, and would rather the great quality that Ramon’s been giving us instead of a slap-dash update that was smooshed together for a dead-line.
September 30th, 2008 at 3:38 am
I know, I know. The wait is certain to be worth it; it always is. I’m just impatient for really really good things. I mean it more as a compliment to his abilities than as a complaint about his time management.
September 30th, 2008 at 6:58 am
Simply amazing.
September 30th, 2008 at 11:05 am
*stomps the floor* I want a new kuku! ..
Erm.. that sounded childish.. especially for a first post >_<
Just wanted to congratulate you on your amazing drawingskillz and your arguably even better storytelling mr Perez. I’ve been a looooong time lurker (started with BNS about 4 years ago actually, when I was bored at work and stumbled across it by accident) and just took this chance to get out of hiding and just say hi.. and thanks for the amazing ride it’s been thusfar
Aaaaaaand just take your time with the art, I think we’d all rather wait a few days for amazing art instead of you pushing rubbish through our troats just to make a deadline…
September 30th, 2008 at 12:25 pm
Calm down, PomPom. I’m not attacking him. I’m just positing an alternative explanation for why comic 100 didn’t materialize.
September 30th, 2008 at 4:12 pm
Hey, this is completely random, but … has anyone else noticed that Reggie has the same accessories/color scheme as Cory Doctorow in xkcd? He’s got red wings instead of a red cape, but the rest is the same. Man, even if that wasn’t on purpose, I love it. Keep up the good work!
September 30th, 2008 at 4:53 pm
the last panel is so amazing
