fifty|two
So i actually had this weeks update up this morning at 1am, but after staring at it online for a few moments i pulled it. i wasn’t quite satisfied with the dialogue and ‘his’ expression in panel two on page 51.
unfortunately i couldn’t tweak it till i got into the studio today. my apologies for the wait.
enjoy.

Poor bird, it was cute in life and in death.
January 22nd, 2008 at 1:31 pm
He clearly prefers the chicken of dispair to the bluebird of happiness. Meany.
January 22nd, 2008 at 1:36 pm
I thought he was about to pull a cell-phone out of his pocket. That would have been hilarious.
January 22nd, 2008 at 2:38 pm
And this is philosophical, and just as much cool.
January 22nd, 2008 at 2:55 pm
Awesome, is it dead or a new e-vile minion of his now?
January 22nd, 2008 at 3:03 pm
here I was hoping to find out Mr Evil’s cell phone ring tone
Ah well. This is still really awesome. Sometimes I wish i had that power.
January 22nd, 2008 at 3:21 pm
Nice. This strip makes Tuesdays less grueling! Thanks for that Ramon!
January 22nd, 2008 at 3:27 pm
I wonder whether he’ll keep the dead bluebird around, that would be interesting. Awsome update as usual, and leaving me wondering about exactly what rules have changed and whether the good guys get to be a bit bad!
January 22nd, 2008 at 4:23 pm
Holy monkey guts! I love this book! When can I buy it?! I wanna buy it! NOW!
January 22nd, 2008 at 5:04 pm
I don’t think it’s a book Chip. Just this online comic.
January 22nd, 2008 at 5:06 pm
I was sooo thinking cell phone too! Maybe our girl caling to say “Neener Neener I’m OK” …not that she would have his number…is this sounding dumber as I type it… I don’t care I just LOVE this so far. Can’t wait to be able to buy my very own book type copy (Please say ther will be a book type copy!).
January 22nd, 2008 at 5:19 pm
my goal is to have kukuburi published whether it be through a publisher (which is difficult to find cause they don’t like printing webcomics) or self-publishing which requires more capital at the beginning. i know there are many digital print on demand places. and the quality is good, but the base production cost is still silly high. especially for something like kukuburi which is full colour and not a standard size.
i hope to have something, whichever path i go, available this year. ideally i am hoping for june. the plan is to collect this first 100 pgs (give or take) of kuku, which essentially be the first “chapter”
we’ll see how it goes. regardless i’ll keep you all posted
January 22nd, 2008 at 6:08 pm
I’m SO in love with your comic!
January 22nd, 2008 at 6:21 pm
I’m glad it wasn’t a cell phone…. The bird is from her battleship “hit” to Him earlier, isn’t it?
January 22nd, 2008 at 6:25 pm
yes
January 22nd, 2008 at 6:44 pm
I thought the “hit” was the flower popping out of the ground. I am mistaken. Poor bird! It was so cute. So vulnerable. I must have one of my own.
January 22nd, 2008 at 6:52 pm
the first “hit” was the flower, the “hit” where she “cheated” was/is the bluebird.
January 22nd, 2008 at 6:53 pm
Oh man what I wouldn’t give for a lil ability like that on a Monday.
Boss “Hey here a shed load of work that I couldn’t be bothered doing myself. Enjoy!”
Ryuji ” Bang! ”
Boss” Oh Noes! My skin! ”
Ryuji ” ^_^ “
January 22nd, 2008 at 7:17 pm
So…NOPE, not a cell phone. So that was her last hit from the game, a blue bird of happiness. Weird. Didn’t see that coming! Now we are still waitning on seeing what happens to our dear Nadia. There’s so much action going on, like I’ve said from the begining this would make an awesome cartoon.
January 22nd, 2008 at 10:24 pm
I have to be honest with everyone. For a little while I was a little nervous that this comic would just be another one of those carbon copy web comics. But as I read farther and farther the colors, art and story became something more. I have to be frank it was this comic that did me in. I want to say to you Ramon, you have created a masterpiece. Much luck and keep drawing.
January 22nd, 2008 at 10:27 pm
Is it just me, or does Mr. Evil seem to think she’s dead? He was talking about how she was gone, in past tense, last page, but now the bluebird seems to have made him rethink that.
Still, a great update… I’m loving how he suddenly grew so somber when he realized what was happening.
January 22nd, 2008 at 11:33 pm
Absolutely wonderful, Ramon. A hit, a palpable hit!
Shame about the bird, though.
Taninger, it seemed to me that in fifty|one Mr Skull was talking about wasting her as an opponent, not that she was dead. For instance, we don’t know that this world has any “surface” to fall onto, so he may simply expect her to exit back to “reality” after falling for a while.
This is then reinforced by “She has most definitely changed the rules.” The implication of that, to me, is that her action changed something basic, even though she has been removed from the immediate playing board. This is always a problem when playing in an intentional universe. Other people’s intent may impinge upon your reality. (Oh, that happens in our world, too, doesn’t it?)
There are very few web-comics that I would pay for in book form. This is one of them.

..does that mean that she made him feel truly happy, after hving presumably spent such a long time alone? he does seem kinda lonely.. & sexy too, i must add. i mean, the bluebird of happiness was kinda at where his heart was.. right? or am i just making shit up as usual? >.
January 23rd, 2008 at 3:35 am
Very cool, a bluebird of happiness. Didn’t see that one coming. But then, that’s what I like about Kuku.

January 23rd, 2008 at 10:19 am
I agree. I’d buy a copy. Story and art… it’s all lovely.
January 23rd, 2008 at 1:04 pm
Your artwork is simply fantastic
January 23rd, 2008 at 6:16 pm
One and a half monts, ten pages, that’s one hell of a delay fuse
… the bluebird of happiness as direct hit on mr. evil = bombs on battlewhale, and he couldn’t even dodge it, he didn’t even see it coming, plain ingenious…..
… but to have mr. evil on regret loosing her and on the next page saying, that she most definitely changed the rules while simultaneously pulling a bluebird of happiness from his guts, now thats twisted, that’s so awesome..
THAT IS SO AWESOME!!!!
I think the last time I had that feeling of awesome, I wanted to marry her.
January 24th, 2008 at 1:46 am
someone embrace the squidly tentacled one… he lost his hat!
January 24th, 2008 at 12:04 pm
hey! I love the bluebird, looks awesome!
January 24th, 2008 at 3:38 pm
Loving the story and art!
Was it the bluebird that brought on his uncontrollable laughter when he was hit?
January 24th, 2008 at 4:47 pm
Master Perez,
ME WANT MORE!!!!!!
Love everything so far, from the whimsical story & atmosphere, to the regular top-notch Perez artwork!!
January 24th, 2008 at 5:36 pm
Was just introduced to this today, and I confess I just read it all rather than working, which is what I should be doing. I’m really hoping that you will submit some panels of this for next year’s Spectrum! You’ve definitely got that je ne sais quoi and I for one would love to see your name get out there:).
January 25th, 2008 at 2:03 am
BANG! He didn’t even see it coming! Heck neither did I! He seemed surprised to find the blubird there, he didn’t know that she had changed the rules until now. Hmmmm. …. interesting!
January 25th, 2008 at 9:19 am
Talk about having a built-in bird cage….
January 25th, 2008 at 4:23 pm

This webcomic is simply aweseome! Thank you, Ramón, for creating and sharing it with us.
I have never really constantly enjoyed a webcomic before, but with KUKUBURI it is totally different. I frequently check the website to see, if and how the story continues and am always sad, if there are no updates
The story is very unique and the graphics and the style are both stunning. I am very much reminded to the times when I played adventure games like Monkey Island, Day of the Tentacle or Grim Fandango (sic!): You didn’t only play it to continue within the cool script, but also to see more lovely designed places and beautifully arranged sceneries. I have the same feeling with KUKUBURI.
I really hope, that you find enough time to continue this project, I just love to visit this website
Best regards from (exceptionally) sunny Germany!

Where can I get a pair of sunglasses like that?
January 28th, 2008 at 9:27 am
I just found your strip - a link from Whiteboard.
Your art style is very nice - I particularly am amused by the “symbols” some characters speak in.
I do have one suggestion - drop the French. It’s a major PITA to have to copy text into a translation program.
Please email me with your update schedule - I want to put a link to your site on mine, and I need to tell people when it updates.
January 28th, 2008 at 5:00 pm
So, mostly pleased with the proceeding
I also came from Doc’s The-Whiteboard. Very interesting reading, - - I smelled a rat with the ringing. Like WHO would call Mr. Death and how? I guess he was as surprised as many of us were :).

*has paypal account at the ready for both Ramon’s Book and if he would consider bringing those Ruby-Gold Specs into our reality.*

Any chance the Newest Pages link on the navigation bar could always point to whatever the newest comic is? What I mean is, if I bookmark today’s Newest Pages link, I get a bookmark to http://www.kukuburi.com/2008/01/21/fiftyone/. What would be awesome would be a way to bookmark the strip so that you go straight to the newest page every time.
p.s. I really like the comic!
January 29th, 2008 at 11:58 am
Mightily impressed! I’m looking forward to them finishing the game of battleship.
Once I have enough $$ set aside I think I’m going to get a Mr. Evil tattoo. He’s drawn much like I envision Death in the Terry Pratchett’s Disc World novels.
Keep up the awesome effort.
January 29th, 2008 at 2:22 pm
This is for whoever asked about the sunglasses.

It’s the closest thing i could find.

Kudos to you Ramón. I stumbled on your comic and it got my attention from the start. The portal strip completely blew my mind and i got hooked. Also, congratulations for all the positive feedback you’re having from all the posts i’ve been reading.
Eager for the next update.

I would love to have a stuffed toy of a blue bird of happiness. It would be called lawrence

Okay, so the nearly vaporized darling bluebird has given me the need to comment. It all started with a link to your Butternutsquash from my friends comic page regnumcba.tk and then I followed the link to this comic (after reading all of BNS which is fricking awesome btw) Damnit, cute things dying always makes me want to cry T.T I LOVE your little Canadian splashes of French language! This is a trippy and most enjoyable comic! Wonderful darling!
